Day 7: Haarlem
On Wednesday, we took a train to the close town of Haarlem. We started at the square: And eventually made our way to the Teylers Museum. Open to the public since 1784, it's the oldest museum in the Netherlands. According to our guidebook, they've tried to keep everything as it had been, so no artificial light in the galleries. We loved it! Well, some artificial light:The museum had a cafe, so we stopped for a snack:Brian really didn't have two coffee drinks and two pieces of pie -- it just looks that way! Our next stop was the Frans Hals Museum. Unfortunately, it was in the process of being renovated, but we were still able to see quite a bit. We just didn't take pictures of it.We also went to the very charming Haarlem Historical Museum. Very highly recommended! We walked back to the main area through ancient streets:And stopped at a cafe for some lunch:We visited a few more museums and a church, and then headed back to Amsterdam. The Haarlem train station was very picturesque: We took the train back to Amsterdam and had a pleasant rest of the evening.
