On our last full day in Belgium, we once again took advantage of sleeping in. We headed out to see the Jenneke Pis, which was inspired (if you want to say that) by the Mannekin Pis, which we had seen earlier in the week.
When we got there, the statue was locked up and the fountain was not working. I can't say that we were very disappointed, though.
There was a British stag party taking place in the bar next to the Jenneke Pis, and they invited us to drink with them. Brian and I didn't want to do that, so we split off from Gloria and Claire at this point. You can see Claire sitting down in the right of this photo. The man in the wedding dress with his back to us is the groom. Apparently much fun and hilarity ensued.
We stopped for lunch at a nice little place that served delicious soup and sandwiches:Then we went walking to see the trifecta: the Zinneke PisRambling along, we found a nice park, where we stopped and watched the wildlife. We were near a large puddle that drew all sorts of birds for drinking and bathing:Our next stop was the cathedral. We wanted to see if the relics were open. Alas, much of the church was roped off, with no explanation, and once again, we were denied seeing the relics. They're in the closed-in section towards the back of this picture:The cathedral was still really beautiful!
We walked around some more and met up with Claire and Gloria at the apartment around 4:30. They were starving since they hadn't eaten lunch, so they went off and ate at a pizza restaurant. We went to the grocery store and bought several cheeses and bread for dinner. Not exactly balanced, but we do love European cheese and we'd be able to eat more varieties if that's all we ate!
The rest of the evening was low-key; packing and getting ready for our departure tomorrow.
