Day 7: Gardner Museum

Saturday was our last full day in Boston. We decided to start with an 8 mile run along the banks of the Charles River, as had been suggested to us by some of our friends. Beautiful scenery met us almost every step of the way.

Back to the apartment, we ate breakfast and showered. We did some of the historic sights that we had not yet done, such as the Paul Revere mall where there is a statue of the patriot:We also visited the Old North Church, made famous by Longfellow's poem:
We needed a bit more cash:
And then we made it to one of the highlights of our trip, the Isabella Stewart Gardner Museum. Unfortunately, they wouldn't let us take pictures of the inside, though I really would have liked to have done so!
If I lived in Boston, I would be here all of the time! Here is Brian exiting the museum:
We ate lunch at a place near the museum called Thaitation. The food was delicious:
Though we couldn't get tickets to a Sox game, we wanted to see Fenway Park. Here it is:Brian saw the little sign indicating a T stop across a parking lot, near Fenway. We made our way over there, but it was not a normal T station. I have a feeling it may just run during games?
So we got another view of Fenway:
The Boston Citgo sign, which I saw while running the marathon:
We finally made it back to the city center. We went to the Boston Public Library to look around a bit.

Inside:
Unfortunately, the tree is casting a shade over this, but it's on the ground, showing the marathon route. A few more pictures from our wanderings:We wanted to go into Charlestown for dinner. Given our location, that meant following the Freedom Trail:
We had drinks at the Warren Tavern, which is said to have hosted George Washington and Paul Revere, and is possibly the 9th oldest bar in the US.
We had appetizers, as well:We decided that our last dinner should be in the North End, where we stayed and where we'd spent much of our time. Trying to decide whether or not to eat here:
Yes -- Ducali Pizza it was.
A good last evening, we returned to our apartment.
